Alice will present her own island photos of orchid species that are rarely seen in cultivation. Tales of travel that describe Mediterranean botany on this beautiful island are included. She will share how exciting it is to see orchids growing in the wild in Sicily.
Alice’s interest in orchids was initiated while working as a volunteer in the Berlin Botanical Garden in 1952 when she chose orchids over cacti. After studies and a degree in plant pathology in Germany, she traveled to the U.S. She and her husband built greenhouses on Horse Mountain in Shelbyville for orchids starting August 1961. A member of OSMT since 1962, Alice has participated in numerous activities of OSMT and the world of orchids. She has traveled and studied orchids and botany in numerous locations around the world.
Be sure to join us! The theme this year is “Wine and Roses”, but we'll have plenty of orchids displayed. Stop by the OSMT booth for orchids you can take home. Our members always have unique species and hybrids for sale.
